In order to fully grasp an understanding of cultural and cross-cultural psychology, the role of critical thinking within this scientific study as well as the methodology used in this field of psychology will alsoâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦For the most part, cultures have more freedom than they had back when cross-cultural psychology first became a scientific study. Cultures are mixing together more and more as humans become more interested in living outside of what they are use to or have always done (Johannson, 2013). The freedom to mix in this nature opens the door for what use to be consid ered cultural norms to create new cultural norms. Critical Thinking and Methodology in Cross-Cultural Psychology As stated earlier, cross-cultural psychology is the scientific comparison of two completely different cultures. In order to compare two or more things with one another, one must possess a certain set of critical thinking skills (Shiraev amp; Levy, 2010). Therefore, the ability to think critically is necessary in order to do any type of research in cross-cultural psychology. Many of the questions that research in cross-cultural psychology tries to answer include such things like how different cultures or people within that culture react to similar situations (Shiraev amp; Levy, 2010). An example would be when an earthquake has hit certain cultures. If we were to look at how people in California handle or react to earthquakes and then look at how the people of Haiti react to an earthquake, we would find out how differently these cultures react to the same devastation.Show MoreRelatedThe And Race Expert Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum1312 Words à |à 6 Pages in psychology at Wesleyan Univer sity, and her M.A. in religious studies at Hartford Seminary. An Analysis of Orwells Shooting an Elephant Essay Example For Students
An Analysis of Orwells Shooting an Elephant Essay An Analysis of Orwells Shooting an ElephantErika Moreno-DaltonIn Shooting an Elephant, George Orwell finds himself in a difficult situationinvolving an elephant. The fate of the elephant lies in his hands. Only he canmake the final decision. In the end, due to Orwells decision, the elephant laydying in a pool of blood. Orwell wins the sympathy of readers by expressing thepressure he feels as an Anglo-Indian in Burma, struggling with his morals, andshowing a sense of compassion for the dying animal. Readers sympathize with Orwell because they can relate to his emotions in themoments before the shooting. Being the white leader, he should have been ableto make an independent decision, but was influenced by the natives (Orwell101). Orwell describes his feelings about being pressured to shoot theelephant: Here I was the white man with his gun, standing in front of theunarmed crowd seemingly the leading actor of the piece; but in reality I wasonly an absurd puppet pushed to and fro by the will of those yellow faces behind(101). Everyone has been in a situation in which he or she has been expected tobe a leader. For different reasons people are looked to as leaders, sometimesbecause of their race, ethnicity, or heritage. In this case, Orwell waspictured as a leader because he was British and he worked for the British Empire. Readers are able to relate to the fact that he does not want to be humiliatedin front of the Burmese. He declares, Every white mans life in the East, wasone long struggle not to be laughed at (101). Orwell compares the elephant tothe huge British Empire, and just as the elephant has lost control, he feelsthat when the white man turns tyrant it is his own freedom that he destroys(100). Secretly he hates the British Empire and is on the side of the Burmese(97). The elephant is equivalent to the British Empire ravaging through Burmaand disrupting the little bit of peace that they have. So in that instant hefelt that he had to kill the elephant. Another aspect that wins readers sympathy is Orwells struggle with what hethought was right and what the Burmese wanted him to do. The readers have asense that he did not have ill-intent to kill the elephant. When Orwell says, As soon as I saw the Elephant I knew with certainty that I ought not shoot him(99). The readers know that cruelty or hatred for the beast was not his motive. Orwell repeats the he does not want to kill it and the readers sympathize withhim. Almost everyone has been in a situation were he or she could not base adecision on personal beliefs and knows that going against those beliefs is verydifficult. Orwell explains, For it is the condition of his rule that he shallspend hid life in trying to impress the natives and so in every crisis he hasgot to do what the natives expect of him (100). Readers respect Orwell forhis sense of duty. He realizes the his decision must be based on the bestinterest of the Burmese. Also, Orwell showed great feelings of compassion forthe dying animal. He was killing the animal because he had to. He did not feelstrong and powerful, as a hunter would; he felt weak and helpless. Orwell sovividly describes the elephants death, almost as it were giving him pain towatch. The elephant lay, dying, very slowly and in great agony. . . (Orwell102). While the elephant lay dying Orwell can feel nothing but helplessness. Hedesc ribes the experience as dreadful to see the great beast lying there, powerless to move and yet powerless to die, and not even to bee able to finishhim (102). He felt helpless, with no bullets left in his gun; he was unable toput the elephant out of his misery. The compassion that he felt was obvious, hewaited so long for the animal to die but, could not stand it anymore and wentaway (Orwell 102). The detailed description that Orwell gives of the deathleaves the impression that he actually had feelings for the animal. If it werea routine killing he would have not even considered how the elephant felt. .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea , .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea .postImageUrl , .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea , .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea:hover , .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea:visited , .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea:active { border:0!important; } .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea:active , .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u183fad40dae5dd02f2170c19a92640ea:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: A Good Man is Hard to Find - Foreshadowing EssayOrwell was very detailed about his feelings about the killing through out theessay. Research Paper on Racial Discrimination Essay Example
Research Paper on Racial Discrimination Essay Racial Discrimination is a philosophy, political theory, and practical actions, based on the concept of the division of people into biologically different groups founded on the appearance of visible features, such as color, hair color and structure, facial features, body structure, etc., i.e., racial features, and different attitudes to people and their communities based on belonging to these groups (races). According to the racist theories, people of different races vary according to socio-biological behavior. According to these theories, important psychological, mental, and physical characteristics are determined by the external signs. There are gross generalizations like ââ¬Å"all blacks are lazyâ⬠, ââ¬Å"all Jews are greedyâ⬠and so on. This difference, according to the followers of racist theories, is due to the heredity mechanisms and does not completely disappear as a result of education, socialization, and other cultural processes. Racism as the ideology came in the period of colonialism, when European powers seized large areas populated by peoples, whose appearance differed dramatically from Europeans anthropological types. There was a need, on the one hand, to explain why everywhere in the world, Europeans are taking a foreign country and not vice versa, and, on the other hand, to justify such a policy. The simplest explanation was to proclaim European race as chosen by god and others to be ââ¬Å"defectiveâ⬠, i.e., essentially, in depriving non-Europeans the right to be called human, and explain the superiorities of Europeans as innate. Note that modern racism comes from European colonialism or under its influence. However, the phenomenon is neither a recent invention, nor purely European. As a kind of xenophobia, racism is inherent in the people since long ago. The spread of racist ideas in the modern world was due to the spread of works by French writer Joseph Arthur de Gobineau, who formulated in hi s book ââ¬Å"Essay on the inequality of human racesâ⬠racial theory. Later, his views were borrowed by leaders of Nazi Germany. twelfth night essays
twelfth night essays Comedic Conflict and Love in Trevor Nunns Twelfth Night Trevor Nunn's direction of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" takes away some of the confusion present in the reading of the text, which begins with the complicated love interests of the main characters. Having been the artistic director for the world famous Royal Shakespeare Company for eighteen years, Nunn is vastly familiar with adaptations of Shakespeares plays. Part of the comedy of this film develops from the first three acts of the play, which allow for a complex circle of interaction to develop within the film. Nunns use of the prologue at the beginning of the film presents crucial information in an easy to understand, witty way. The films prologue makes clear much of the plays primary confusion, and establishes the foundation on which the rest of the film may balance upon. Nunns adaptation of "Twelfth Night" begins with the founding relationship in the play, the designs that Orsino expresses for Olivia. It is clear that this first interaction is the basis for others that occur, and it is also clear that both Shakespeare and Nunn utilize this interaction to create the comedic effects that happen because of the subsequent love interests. Orsino is not just an average courtly love, he is the Duke, and has considerable stature and respectability in his community. It is expected that his love for the Countess Olivia will be reciprocated, even in the midst of her grieving the loss of her brother. However, Duke Orsino's attempts at contact are met with disdain, but Olivia's lack of interest does not dissuade Orsino from continuing his pursuit. Duke Orsino is not a skilled romantic. His belief that he can compel Olivia into marriage through the expression of his feelings in messages demonstrates his lack of real passion in the situation and shows that he is of great stature, perhaps to belittle himself with courting. He is no...

He must kill each beast and handle the delicate capture of Andromeda wisely so that he can save her alive (Canby, 1981). The film does not have characters based on real people. Instead, the characters are made up to reflect the constituents reflected in the Greek mythology. This is why the film falls under the fantasy genre. The characters are imaginative and the events portrayed are highly unlikely to transpire in the real life. The characters potential and the nature of events transcend the laws of physics and exceed the ability of humans. The directorââ¬â¢s use of no real characters and events squarely fits the elements of mythology. The film is set in ancient Greece. There is no apparent use of real locations but instead the director chooses to make representation of various critical locations. Such include Mount Olympus which formed the home of the Greek gods, the city of Joppa which was the residence of Princess Andromeda and the island of Seriphos where Perseus grew up. The representation was done well to compliment the fantasy element of the mythology. It is possible that the director did not use real locations because the story itself is not real. The applied special effects were not up to standard. A lot better in that field could have been necessary to give the filmââ¬â¢s audience a better experience. The

Organization Change and Development Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Organization Change and Development - Essay Example There is not one organization in the world that can survive the current business environment by resisting change (Kaufman, 2007). These changes are not random; rather they are the result of various factors which will be the focus of this paper. Factors Affecting Change The major forces that make organizational change inevitable, which can either be external or internal, are: economic, technological, social, political, legal, labor market and international environments. Every organization has its own unique goals and objectives which are related in one way or another to the changing business environment which is highly dynamic. These factors of change normally force the organization to re-evaluate and change its mode of operation, management and service delivery (Botha and Kourie, 2008). Technology may be the main factor of change that is being experienced all over the business world. The 21st century has been characterized by innovations and introductions of new technologies which ha ve affected the way people love and work. Perhaps the most important of this technological innovation has happened in the communication sector. The development of the telephone, internet and other forms of communication has entirely changed the business environment (Appalbaum, Close and Klasa, 1999). ... The market conditions in the 21st century have also changed quite a lot. Competition has become much stiffer than it was years ago. This competition has been heightened by the ever increasing number of businesses that offer the same or similar products and/or services. The battle to remain relevant in this kind of market environment is one that all organizations must fight on a constant basis. If it means that the organizations have to change the way they conduct their business, then there is no way around it. Globalization is a major reason why market competition has risen to such great heights (Appelbaum, Everard and Hung, 1999). A good example of a business environment that has seen many changes due to changing market conditions is India. After liberalization in the last two centuries, the country has experienced an influx of foreign companies and formation of many others. This has created such high level of competition that those organizations which could not keep up with the cha nge had to close down or merge with those that had already adapted to the changing business environment. Those organizations that were able to re-align their operations with the sweeping changes in the market are some of the countries best today. The political and legal environment is also as turbulent as the business environment of today. This is because it is also vulnerable to frequent changes, which also affect other spheres of life for individuals and organizations alike. Any changes of governance or administration in a country or a region may have great implications for businesses. For instance, if a democratic government is replaced by a totalitarian one, or vise versa, there is likely to be a major shift of

Two People Who Have Great Influence in My Life Essay Introduction à à à à à à à à à à à I am what I am. Who I am today was the result of my past experiences in life; hence, experiences that are worth remembering for. I am a person of good value and virtue because of these two great people who have influenced and touched my life in a very significant ways. They are the one who really sacrifice a lot just to give me a better future. They molded me as a person of good morals and dignity as well as a person who love and fear God. These two people that have touched my life are my beloved parents, my dad and mom. I owe my life to them and I will not stop thanking God for giving me such wonderful and loving parents. The intents of this paper are: (1) to figure out how my dad and mom influenced my life in different and similar ways and; (2) know deeper what are their contributions in my life. Discussion à à à à à à à à à à à My dad is an ideal father to me. When I will have my own family, I would like to be like him. He is a very responsible man. He is very loving and a generous father. He supplies our daily needs and not only that, he always find time to spend quality time with us in spite of his hectic schedules from his work. Every time he got from his work, he frequently brought us presents; they may be small or big but it has great impact in my life because it is not how expensive or cheap the present is but it is the thought that counts. I always hear my father saying ââ¬Å"I love youâ⬠to my mother and to us as well. He really shows that we, his family, are very important to him. He treats us every time he receives his salary. I never experience that my father has shouted nor spanked me because of what I did. He disciples my siblings and I in a manner that we will not retaliate because of what he does to us. If I have done something wrong, he just calls me to go to his bedroom so that we can have a talk. à à à à à à à à à à à My mom is the most wonderful mother in the whole world. Truly, she is the light in our home. She is a kind of mother that disciplines us firmly yet gentle. She is just like my father because when my siblings and I have done something wrong, she also calls us to go to her bedroom, if ever my dad is not around to disciplines us, and have a short talk. She is a kind of mom who always consoles us if ever we have something that troubles us. She is a good cook too. She sees to it that we have a good and nutritious meal. She never complains in raising us but indeed she finds it a delight, seeing us feed with her love and care. à à à à à à à à à à à My mom and dad have brought great impact in my life. My father taught me how to be like a man. He taught me how to play sports, working out and stuff like that. We always have a man to man talk and he told me that when I have my own family in the future, I should care my future family the way he takes care of us. And I am pretty sure that I can be like him because that is the kind of family where I am brought up. Well, if others cannot easily get along with their mom because they are boys, I can sincerely say that I can easily approach and get along with my mom. She always tells me that I should love my neighbors as myself and never take advantage on the weaknesses of others. She also reminds me to be a one woman man in the future, just like my father did. Though they teach me in different ways but they have one common denominator and that is to raise me as a person of good value and dignity. III. Conclusion à à à à à à à à à à à To have a very loving father and mother is such a great blessing from God; a blessing that cannot be exchanged with the wealth of this world. These two people are very precious to me and I am not what I am today without their unending love, support and fair discipline.

American History X Essay -- Film Movies Sociology
American History X American History X is clearly a film dealing with the social topic of racism. The interesting thing about this film is the way in which the subject is presented. First of all, it is obvious that, though racism is always a difficult subject to deal with, American History X presents it without any reservations or dummying down. Second, the film's figurehead for racism, Derek Vinyard (Edward Norton), is not an unintelligent redneck racist as films often portray them, but is in fact well-spoken, charismatic and bright, although he clearly holds ideals that are terribly wrong. Finally, the film shows that it is not only the white, neo-nazi racists who are fools for being involved in this, but all those who hold hatred in their hearts. Through these methods, the film instills this idea upon the viewer, in an extremely convincingly way, that hatred and racism will destroy a person and those closest to them. It is immediately revealed to the audience at the onset of this movie that there will be no holds barred and no playing down the realism of this intense racial hatred. When the film flashes back to the reason for Derek's incarceration, we see Danny, awoken by the sound of breaking glass, rush to wake up his brother and alert him that some black guys are trying to steal or wreck his truck. At hearing this, Derek immediately jumps out of bed, grabs a gun, and shoots one of them, wounds another, and fires at the third as he drives away. Then, in one of the most brutal scenes in film history, Derek forces the remaining, wounded man to put his face on the curb and Derek kicks the back of his head, smashing in the man's skull. This scene is a perfect example of cumulative causation, for it depicts the endless circl... ...ferred to comes at the end of the film, when a black student Danny had previously encountered and angered shoots him repeatedly. Derek, making a visit to the school, runs in to find that his worst nightmare had come true. His brother was dead, due to racist actions, and his life and the lives of his family will be changed forever for it. For an explanation unknown to anyone, some people are inclined to hating others. Motives may perhaps be because they are insecure of who they are, feel threatened by someone, or an explanation which no one has. This movie explains that a major reason why people hate is because they want to blame someone else for their misfortunes. It is always nice to put the responsibility on somebody else's shoulders. Hopefully in a near future people can begin to comprehend how foolish it is to hate all the time, and then start to love.

Project Planning, Execution, and Closure Essay
Premise As the project manager in charge of IRTCââ¬â¢s new endeavor of upgrading their legacy billing system one of the most crucial tasks in which I have to accomplish in this function is to build a team of worthy professionals. As we know the people we work with can either be a value to a program or at time a detriment; therefore as a project manager, it is extremely important to hire the right talent at the right price. We have to keep in mind while talent is important, itââ¬â¢s even more important to hire personnel that will coalesce effectively in all manners pertaining to the crucial work. Without synergy from the team, the project manager is taking unnecessary risk that may impede reaching benchmarks thus ultimately risking the ability to meet requirements. Along with many other tasks, the project manager has to hire competent individuals and align these individuals to roles that are best suited for the project. The IRTC billing system project has budgetary limitations, the budget for the project must be managed so that the best value is created for the lowest cost. The contract allows 2.5 full time employees but requires three positions to be filled for the role as the end user, business analyst and team leader, thus the common sense approach would be to create two dual hated positions that can perform at least two or more roles. I recognizing that the IRTC billing system project will be best suited for two multi-talented FTEs, therefore, I am strongly considering Chris and Terry for the End used, business analyst and team leader positions. Terry would be a great fit for the team leader and business analyst position, while Chris would be a perfect fit for the software tester and end user position. What does a business analyst do? The roles of the business analyst will vary from company to company. In theory the ideal Business analyst should be versatile in numerous functions related to business; the business analyst does not have to be a master in these functions, a general knowledge will suffice, enough knowledge to see trends and recognize superfluous factors that may have adverse effects on those function. A business analyst should have knowledge in finance, engineering, computer hardware architecture, operations, finance, engineering and technology. Business analysts typically serve as the liaisons which will bridge the individual departments within an organization together throughout the various phases within the developmental process. The following are core skills and functions of business analyst, as dictated by an article from Villanova University: Business analyst will works all the departments within a business to isolate prospects for enhancements in business operations and processes. Business anal ysts are usually included in the modification and strategy/design of IT systems or business systems. The analyst interacts with the business stakeholders and subject matter experts in order to understand their problems and needs. The business analyst and the project manager are usually close based on the fact that the business analyst will have to familiar with documents pertaining to the project and usually analyzes business needs and requirements being created by the project manager. Business analyst are usually involved in all aspect of the new project, a big part of their role is to solve business problems, come with business solutions technical issues that warrant such measures. A big part of a business analyst role is to documents technical design and functionality of the new system. Business analyst seldom works together with developers and system architects to ensure that proper integration of the system being worked on. A business analyst might aid in tests for the system being developed and part of his tasks in this function may be to produce user manuals and documentation for the system. In retrospect to the various tasks of the business analyst Terry would fit perfect within that roles. Terry has business analyst experience already and Terry attitude toward the work is positive. What does a team leader do? The team leaderââ¬â¢s role and functions are directly related to the team members; hence various employees are hired by the project manager because of their knowledge and expertise. The team leaderââ¬â¢s is hired to effectively coordinate those team mates. Nonetheless, the team leader should be familiar with organization processes and have a good report with various stakeholders. The team leader should be the liaison between the team and act as a moderator between the individual team members and the project manager. He or she should have constant interaction with the team as to gather pertinent information so as to improve processes. The team leader is usually in charge or may act as the schedule keeper and record keeper during the various stages development. The team leader must build and maintain a good relationship with the sponsor, as he or she will have constant interaction the both the sponsor and stakeholders. Lastly, the team leader may play a part in the selection of n ew team members. The team leader is a role for a project, the person in that role may have other functions within the organization, and therefore that person must learn to manage his various roles accordingly to be effective. Cron.com states that part of the role the team leader is to develop strategy, communicate the vision, serve the team, remain calm, and make decisions. Terry would be exemplary in the team lead position. I have worked in program where the business analyst and team position are one of the same, being fulfilled by one person. What is an end user? The best way to describe an end user is to think of that type of person which will ultimately be using the system or software being developed. In the realm of information technology, the concept of the end user is somewhat different; the usage for the term may be nominal to any industry but have a totally different function in IT. In information technology or the production of information technology systems, end users are hired for the sake of testing the system as a measure to provide feedback in various areas. People who do not have a good working knowledge of the software are used for the purpose of human factoring, functionality, feasibility, ease and purpose. Developers will use information from the end used in the various phases of the system being develop to improve in areas where end users functionality and ease of operation is warranted. Chris would be theà perfect person to act in the role as the end user. Chris would be a valued member to the project not only does he fit perfect for the end user role but he has programming talents as well as good useful knowledge in software testing. Why I choose Terry and Chris Upon reading the background of the five candidates, it became clear which candidate would fit within my ideal team. First off, I disqualified Pat as candidate, although his well-qualified and would have made a great team lead/business analyst, Patââ¬â¢s attitude toward the project makes me full uneasy and question is diligences to fulfilling his task based on that he does not see the benefit of moving to the Web-based version. I disqualified Jan for team lead position and business analyst position just because Terry is just a better and I could not hire her any other position because her salary requirements is higher than Terryââ¬â¢s. Also, Pat is overly qualified for the end user position. I did not consider Robin for either position albeit she may be a value in another needed role, possibly as a programmer. Terry and Chris will only take 48 hours from the 100 hours allowed for full time employees. Jan might be a good candidate to hire as trainer considering I we purchase the training package from the vendor. Janââ¬â¢s background with vendorââ¬â¢s competitor will make her an avid trainer; also it would be good to have her counsel. She may be the key person to helping IRTC create a product that has advantages over current software available. References: Project Management Institute. (2013). The Elizabethan Theatre Era - 1205 Words
Introduction to our specific production and the theatre design element: While evaluating the history of A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream, it is apparent that an exact date, time, or stage design has been identified for this particular Shakespearean masterpiece. It is believed by some scholars that William Shakespeare wrote this play with a wedding in mind, while otherââ¬â¢s will argue that the final script wasnââ¬â¢t performed for anyone in particular, but rather for the general public in an amphitheater setting. According to the time period that A Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream was made public, it is a large possibility that it was not performed in London, and that it was most definitely not performed as a small production in an Inn-yard, or even an indoor playhouse. The Elizabethan Theatre Era Prior to the rule of the Queen Elizabeth I, acting was not seen as a serious profession. Most of the players (unless they were summoned to the Kingââ¬â¢s court) were working men, who held everyday jobs in addition to being entertainers. Although the plays that could be performed were limited (as the theme was normally based around religion), the demand for theatrical entertainment was vast, and the theatre was becoming a fashionable place to go for entertainment. Of course, with the theatre growing into a popular form of amusement, a large issue surrounding the art was a finding a place to perform. Video Games And Its Effects On Society - 2285 Words
From the inception of Pong to the latest chapter of the video game series Assassinââ¬â¢s Creed, virtual gaming has been scorned and shunned as a detriment to society. Older generations speculate that incessant gaming in young children insinuates violence, antipathy, lack of creative initiative, and develops an unhealthy isolation from the real world. However, in recent years, these postulates have been put to the test; a number of scientists have conducted experimentation in order to discover whether not virtual gaming affects children in negative ways, and the results could not be farther from their original hypotheses. These studies have shown that videogames can be used for educational purposes, as well as for conducting psychological and medical research and advancements, and that speculations regarding their destructive nature and violence-inspiring tendencies result in no conclusive evidence. In fact, video games may even be developing into the newest art form, as many prov ide insights into political and philosophical discussion using gameplay and graphics. In other words, the development of virtual gaming over the past twenty years is not detrimental to the upbringing of adolescents in our society, and can actually be beneficial in a multitude of areas. International Human Resource for Leadership-myassignmenthelp
Question: Discuss about theInternational Human Resource Management for Leadership. Answer: HR practices may not produce the same results in different cultural contexts As defined by Kooij et al. (2013), human resource practice is the strategic activities that enables that human resource personnel in developing their leadership plan. Employee skill development plan is also considered under HR practice. The success of a business organization is highly dependent on the performance level of every individual employee associated within the business organization. Based on the performance level of every individual employee the business organizations tend to earn sufficient revenue. As per the human resource practices employees are needed to be motivated towards performing well. It is undeniable that a particular business organization is constituted with the employees of different cultural backgrounds and attitudes. While managing the performance or career level of an individual employee the organizational human resource management team has to face innumerable barriers in communicating with the employees of different geographical boundaries or cultural atti tudes. While making a career progression plan both the organizational managers as well as executives have to face difficulties. As per the opinion of Pichler (2012), Career managementis the continuous planning of activities that engages one towards better fulfillment of job satisfaction, growth as well as financial stability. While appointing within a business organization the business managers intend to develop various career management and career progression plan for rending a financial stability within the organization. At the same time, it is also undeniable that career management plan makes an individual professional more confident towards the business services. As per the point of view of Alfes et al. (2013) career management plan varies from one culture to another. Employees belonging to other cultural backgrounds have to face innumerable barriers in communicating with the human resource managers at the workplace. They have to face psychological hindrances as well while interacting with HR professionals regarding their career management plan. In this kind of situation those kinds of employees having an issue with cultural and religious backgrounds have to face difficulties for being the active part of career management plan. Peretz and Fried (2012) opined that in order to develop the career progression plan human resource managers have to provide an effective training and development session for enhancing the skills and competency level of the employees. In this kind of situation, people belonging to other cultural backgrounds and attitudes have to face innumerable difficulties for being the part of this training and development session. T hose employees have to face challenges in interacting with the professional trainers due to the lack of language flexibility. Automatically, those employees having different cultural backgrounds get deprived of receiving an effective training session. Tang and Tang (2012) has however, differed the point of view of previous research scholar fervently. As per the opinion of this particular eminent scholar every business organization aims to provide an effective training on communication skill to those employees who are having lack of language flexibility. In this kind of situation, people belonging to different cultural backgrounds and attitudes get the opportunity to develop their communication skill first. As per human resource management practice career management plan is one of the most integral parts of motivating employees towards performing well. In this kind of situation, employees having different geographical and cultural backgrounds do not have to face barriers in attending the career progression session. Ceylan (2013) opined that they can gain the flexibility of interacting with the trainers after developing their communication skill. However, this particular study after developing the career management plan has evaluate d that business organizations should recruit employees belonging to from different cultural backgrounds. After appointing the employees human resource managers can provide an effective training session for developing the communication skill of an individual. Whenever the employees would have to join within the training and development session for the purpose of career management plan this particular employee would not have to face difficulties in interacting with the trainers. As emphasized by Marescaux, De Winne and Sels (2012) a career management plan is constituted with five major steps including building relationship with the organizational professionals, career development conversation with the human resource managers, career development plan, setting a new goal and receiving an effective training session for career development. It has been observed that employees belonging to other cultural backgrounds failed to make an effective interaction with the organizational manager due to linguistic barrier. Consequently, the human resource managers fail to identify the flaws of those employees that need to be developed with the help of effective training and developed session. However, after evaluating the opinion of different scholars it can be evaluated that the result of HR practices differ as per the cultural as well as psychological backgrounds of the employees. As per the opinion of Jiang, Wang and Zhao (2012), performance appraisalprovides the basis of selecting, promoting and evaluating the performance level of an employee in order to increase the salary status along with the promotion of career. Before giving the promotion of an individual the human resource managers tend to make an effective appraisal planning in order to review the performance level of an individual. Before getting appraised every individual employee has to make an interpersonal communication with the human resource manager. This specific study has provided an in-depth overview on how HR managers have to face challenges in dealing with the employees of different cultural attitudes at the workplace. Juhdi, Pa'wan Hansaram (2013) stated that employees who are from different geographical boundaries have to face linguistic barriers in interacting with the human resource managers. At the time of performance appraisal process those employees fail to express their thoughts a nd ideas with the HR managers due to communication gap. Automatically, HR managers intend to show their negative approach towards giving them a good feedback on appraisal. Consequently, the people belonging to different cultural attitudes get fewer opportunities in promoting their career from one level to another. Daley (2012) has strongly differed the point of view of previous research scholar. As per the opinion of this specific individual performance appraisal system is not dependent on the culture and religious attitude of an individual. Performance appraisal is judged as per the performance level of the employees throughout the year. This specific research scholar has stated that employees performance level is judged as per the competency level of an individual. Jiang et al. (2012) stated that human resource managers of an organization are flexible enough in recruiting an individual employee as per the skill and level of competency. If any employee faces linguistic or psycholog ical barriers while providing services human resource managers can provide an effective training and development session for developing the communication skill. Automatically, the entire process of performance appraisal procedure would be effective for both the employees as well as the human resource managers. Hofstedes cultural dimension model policy power distance ensures that employees having strength and power inside the organization get more priority than the employee of low power. Power of an individual is primarily is judged as per the cultural dimension as well as seniority level. Gupta and Kumar (2012) stated that senior employees who are having a good rapport with the human resource managers are saving a positive impact on the overall performance appraisal procedure. On the other hand, people who do not have to face any kind of linguistic barrier with the organizational managers can have a possibility of getting good appraisal process. Therefore, it is clear and evident that way of interaction matter immensely in getting a good appraisal from the human resource managers. Daley (2012) has strictly differed this specific conception. As per the point of view of this specific scholar power distance can never be one of the most effective components of performance appraisal process. As per the opinion of this specific scholar, large number of organizations is there where junior employees have received a good appraisal than the senior one. On the other hand, people who are having different cultural backgrounds and attitudes have also got a good appraisal due to their excellent performance progress throughout the years. Therefore, cultural barrier, communication barrier can never be the most significant components for getting a good appraisal for the employees. After evaluating the point of view of some of the most eminent scholars it can be concluded that cultural dimension has major impact in implementing human resource management practices properly. Numerous eminent scholars have stated that HR practices may produce different results in different cultural contexts. Due to the communication barrier those employees are not flexible enough in sharing their views or difficulties facing wt the workplace. Ceylan (2013) opined that consequently human resource managers cannot communicate with those individuals properly. In this kind of situation, the business organization should implement some of the major strategies and policies based on which people belonging to different geographical markets get the scope of expressing their point of view to human resource managers. As a result, the HR managers would be effective in implementing organizational practices. Reference List: Alfes, K., Truss, C., Soane, E. C., Rees, C., Gatenby, M. (2013). Privatization Essays (565 words) - Market Structure, Monopoly
Privatization As a result of privatization in Russia, tens of thousands of state-owned enterprises - from small retail shops to major industrial enterprises - have been transformed into privately owned companies. Millions of Russian citizens became owners. The privatization is guided by the special government program which operates on different administrative levels: federal, regional and municipal. The authorities on any given level are authorized to privatize only those assets transferred to their ownership. Large-scale privatization By July 1994, 15,052 medium and large enterprises, employing more than 80% of the industrial workforce, had been privatized in a voucher-based privatization scheme. The second (post-voucher), cash-based phase of privatization is under way now. Government blocks of shares will be sold primarily to strategic investors in special investment tenders. The list of ?strategic enterprises?, including energy, defence and utilities, majority state ownership is to be retained for at least two to three years. In the second stage of privatization, enterprises will be able to buy the land and buildings they are associated with. Farm privatization has made limited progress so far. More than 80% of agricultural land is owned by large farms with some form of collective ownership and 10% remains state property. Only 6% is in the hands of private farmers and urban dwellers with small household plots own 4%. Property rights over agricultural land remain subject to heavy restrictions. Small-scale privatization By the end of 1995 more than 100,000 state-owned small-scale businesses (with less than 200 employees) had been transferred to private hands. The overwhelming majority of these were in the retail trade, public catering and consumer services sector, where private entities account for 80% of activity. The size of the private sector The non-state sector, including all corporatized enterprises irrespective of the share of state ownership, accounted for 70% of GDP and 60% of employment by the end of 1995. Forecast for 1996 Financial assets will be the main instrument of privatization in 1996. The share of facilities sold at auctions and commercial and investment tenders and privatized by the redemption of leased property and sale of immovables and land will grow. The development of the stock market will be based lagerly on demand from ?strategic investors? interested in high profitability for their investments and the gaining of control over enterprises. The sale of land and immovables to enterprises will be a new feature of privatization. According to estimates, the number of enterprises which will have changed their form of ownership will be 124,600 in 1996. Their aggregate output is estimated at 844 trillion rubles (accounted for 31% of GDP) and their combined personnel at 21 million (31.6% of employment). The creation of an effective bankruptcy mechanism and work with insolvent enterprises will be a major factor in enhancing economic efficiency. The legal base of bankruptcy is to be improved and effective bankruptcy procedures to be elaborated in 1996. This presumably is to facilitate the reduction of inter-enterprise debts. Adoption of international bookkeeping principles and audit standards can help solve many problems related to enterprise insolvency, restructuring, improvement and support. Next year's privatization process will be determined, to a considerable degree, by the state of the market. In 1996 it should acquire all the basic characteristics of the capital market, and its main task will be an effective inter-industry and inter-regional re-distribution of investment resources.
